ONLINE POSTGRADUATE OPPORTUNITY IN INTERNATIONAL ANIMAL HEALTHBuilding on a solid foundation of biological, immunological, pathological and epidemiological principles, this online MSc will equip you with the skills needed to identify, control and manage animal diseases and the expertise to tackle the international animal health challenges of the 21st Century. Livestock are vital to the livelihoods of millions of poor people, but endemic and epidemic diseases limit productivity, jeopardizes assets of the poor and exacerbate poverty. Many diseases can be transmitted between animals and people, posing a threat to the health of livestock keepers, their families and their communities. In many developing regions, the downsizing of veterinary services through economic forces, exacerbated by HIV/AIDS and the brain drain, means the control of endemic livestock diseases now relies heavily on farmers, animal health assistance and extension workers who are often ill equipped for the task. This established MSc programme draws together expertise from across the University of Edinburgh to deliver first class teaching and research through distance learning. This programme will be based on elements from the earlier residential MSc programme, with both compulsory core and specialist elective modules encompassing the great diversity within the field of International Animal Health Thinking to join us online in 2012/13, online applications are already being considered.
